Xiu Wen is a passionate music composer struggleng financially but dedicated to her craft. She forms a group with her boyfriend, Jun Peng, and best friend, Ai Lin, performing and selling songs. Her younger sister, Xiu Min, is autistic. Growing up with an abusive father and a special-needs sister, Xiu Wen received little care and ran away from home at 16, losing contact for 10 years. Her ailing mother tracks her down and brings Xiu Min to see her. During an encounter with a harasser, the mother collapses. On her deathbed, she apologizes to Xiu Wen and entrusts Xiu Min to her care.
